The Non Fan's Perspective

Can I just say that I'm completely and utterly appalled by so-called Hottests? As the title implies, I'm not a 2PM fan. I love their music, and they're interesting, but I never found myself loving them as I do with SS501, or DBSK. What I've been hearing and seeing, however...
How can you blame six people who have been working their asses off to pave the way for Jae's return? They have been doing everything in their collective power to please their fans while feeling the distinct loss of their leader and friend over something said in the heat of the moment while he was a scared teenager. I challenge someone to tell me that they've never said something that they wished to God they could take back. I know I have.
Imagine the shock they felt knowing that he would not be returning as they had all hoped and planned. I haven't listened to the press conference, or heard many of the rumors, but to take things they say in all honesty and take and twist them out of context is just...I mean, they were nothing but polite and tolerated the rudeness and in some cases hatred thrown at them with a level of maturity that I, at 29 years old, would be unable to achieve.
And to further add insult to injury, you release photos and manipulate the situations to turn more people against them. So what if they're seen out with girls? They're healthy twenty something year old guys. Are they only allowed to spend time with each other? No members of the opposite sex? I'm pretty sure you all have friends of both genders, right? I'm talking to a good friend of mine right now who's a guy. Does that make me a poor role model for my friends who look up to me? Should they be ashamed of me and be allowed to tarnish my name over it?
Yes, I'm sure JYP could have handled things better regarding the release of information and Jaebum himself could have said something, but hindsight is always 20/20, right? He fucked up. It happens. While we don't know what he did, it was Jaebum who did it in the end, not Taecyeon, or Junho. Not Wooyoung or Junsu, either. Nichkhun and Chansung are just as innocent.
Were you there when Jae did whatever he did? Were you a fly on the wall when he confessed to his brothers what he had done? Were you sitting with them as they realized that their precious leader wouldn't be returning, or when they had to accept the fact, despite the hurt they had to be feeling?
A fan, to me, is a person who will stand by their idol in their darkest hour, not turn your backs the moment trouble appears. We should support them and lend them our shoulders, not force them to stand on their own surrounded by quicksand and allow them to sink. I believe there is a highly well known phrase that sums this all up, and I think that I'll leave off on that note:
"Let he who is without sin cast the first stone."

Date: 2010-03-04 05:37 am (UTC)I don't think I could have said it any better, hon. These guys are human - mistakes have been made but guess what? That's what humans do. And they are guys in their 20s - as one, I know I have had my share of girlfriends. Does that make me the scum of the earth? These so-called fans put the boys on such high pedestals and yet are so easily able to knock them down.
I'll support 2pm whether they are 7 or 6 or 13 (or should I say 15). I'll also support Jae. This is what a fan does.

Date: 2010-03-04 05:38 am (UTC)Like I said on twitter: the rest of the band is probably going through more heartache than the fans are. They not only lost their leader, but one of their friends. I'm sure they're having a hard time continuing as a six member band, and the fans aren't making it easier. I think they should support them rather than be against them. >(

but like i said on MSN~
you put my words into proper and appropriate english~
i just want to talk to one of these fans because i don't understand their way of thinking~
if ELF could stay with Super Junior through DUI''s, fights, like 1o heechul scandals, and the members talking about how they only like skinny girls.....like really.
hottest can't just manage to not destroy the other members life. and the sad part is that they like turned on the members and are on jay's side....
like WTF?! how did that even happen.
i think it's just a bunch of crazy people~~~
and if you haven't seen this, this like puts everything into like 1o min~
and it's entertaining~

Date: 2010-03-04 05:40 am (UTC)As for the can't be seen out in public with members of the opposite sex thing: It's ridiculous. I mean, I guess it happens with celebrities over here too, but I don't think to this extent. But it's all a matter of cultural difference. A very stupid concept they have, in my opinion, but to each their own. Nearly all the international students who come over here are males. Some of the adults at church have asked my mother in scandalizing tones, "Why is your daughter sitting with all the boys?" "They're her friends." "Boys?" "Um, yeah...." Times are changing, just slower for some people. My friend Eunchong has a mixed group of friends back in Korea. About forty percent female I'd estimate. Jonghyun has only one female friend. Two if you count the girl who lives in Vancouver. Every time he's talking about someone, he points out if they're female. I don't comment on it because we'd just get into another argument (we get into a lot of arguments these days). I just don't see gender. *shrugs*

Date: 2010-03-04 05:53 am (UTC)It looks to me that, while the Hottests that are doing all of this say that they are fans of 2PM, I beg to differ; they say 2PM but really, from the way they're acting it sounds like all they care about is Jaebum.
Not that I don't, being a semi-fan of 2PM and all, but to blame the group's own members, who cared so much for him they gave him what would have been his part of their salary (should he still have been part of 2PM) from what they earned from their first album sales... Well now, there's no way to justify that.
Even so, if all they care about is Jaebum, shouldn't that mean that they should make him happy? Not burdening him with all these ridiculous boycotts. By now, I'd think they would get the hint, and just leave him alone. It was his choice and his decision; if they were real/true fans, they would respect that.

Date: 2010-03-04 06:00 am (UTC)And the whole thing with fanclubs (not just Hottests) and companies not allowing their idols to date or spend time with the opposite gender is bullshit.
As far as I'm concerned, the majority of male/female idols are normal people too, despite the hype they're given. They love, they get angry, they date, they hate, etc.
Neither fans nor a company has the right to restrict that.

Date: 2010-03-04 06:05 am (UTC)You're 29?!?!You summed up my own thoughts effectively up there , gal.
I was so disappointed in fans and I hope real Cassies never behave like that (is a DBSK stan) no matter what.
I mean, for Jay to return would be troublesome (according to recent information) and he doesn't even want to return in the first place. Idols have a hard enough life without all the drama so I think he called it quits. Hell, I would too. And now the other 6 guys have to handle the wrath of a few fans and other people that can't seem to know about respect.
I'm not a fan either but I do enjoy their songs occassionaly and I'll say Jay was my favorite member and I was kinda hurt when he left but it's not that big of a deal, sure it'll hurt the true fans and it will be hard but in the end is for their best interests and every person, fan or not, should respect that.

Date: 2010-03-04 11:42 am (UTC)What I would really love to know is just how many of these so-called fans were the ones who were sending Jay death threats when all of this broke months ago that he said whatever it was that got him suspended? How many of these people stood by him then? I betcha not many at all.
So for them to do this to the others when it turns out Jay's not coming back...it really is appalling and unforgivable. While yeah, you know my thoughts on what I think he did, and that it's very very very not good and I don't blame the others for not wanting him back if this is the case, you are right too - if they are 'real' fans, they should be stickin' by their boys no matter what.
This goes for Cassies, ELF, AND Hottest.
If you don't, you have no right to call yourself a fan of theirs. End of.
(btw, the JE thing? They are allowed to have girlfriends (and get married) but they have to ask permission first, and this ONLY applies to the older groups. The kohai groups (HeySay, Kisumai etc.) are still not allowed to date. Why do you think most of the senpai group members who are married now ended up having to get their girlfriends pregnant first in order to get permission to get married? Even the famous KimuTaku. It's pretty sad...)
I don't think I'll ever understand Asian culture where it concerns their pop stars, or their idols at all, really. It's just so whacked out. They're held to a pretty much impossible standard and it's hardly surprising why so many of them crack like that.

Date: 2010-03-04 01:58 pm (UTC)I dunno. I like some 2PM songs, I like the member's characters but not that big of a Hottest. Their fans actions are really out of line. Why would you hate on the other members when they're more upset than you are? They've done everything that they can. They're closer to him than you. Those fans so claim to love 2PM but is that love? Attacking the members, boycotting them, spreading false rumors about them and even dropping out of their fanclub and giving up on them? That's just immature.
