I've been out of the K-Pop world for a few days, so this is all new to me, but not really. Because it isn't all that surprising, sadly.
As for the can't be seen out in public with members of the opposite sex thing: It's ridiculous. I mean, I guess it happens with celebrities over here too, but I don't think to this extent. But it's all a matter of cultural difference. A very stupid concept they have, in my opinion, but to each their own. Nearly all the international students who come over here are males. Some of the adults at church have asked my mother in scandalizing tones, "Why is your daughter sitting with all the boys?" "They're her friends." "Boys?" "Um, yeah...." Times are changing, just slower for some people. My friend Eunchong has a mixed group of friends back in Korea. About forty percent female I'd estimate. Jonghyun has only one female friend. Two if you count the girl who lives in Vancouver. Every time he's talking about someone, he points out if they're female. I don't comment on it because we'd just get into another argument (we get into a lot of arguments these days). I just don't see gender. *shrugs*
