Oil and water.

When Changmin had been introduced to Cho Kyuhyun, the thirteenth and newest member of Super Junior, they had all expected the two to become the best of friends.

How wrong they were.

Not a day would go by that the two wouldn't fight like cats and dogs when in the same room. Changmin blamed Kyuhyun's snarky personality while Kyuhyun took shots at Changmin's smartass attitude.

----------------------------------------------------

"Seriously, Changmin, why don't you like Kyuhyun?" Jaejoong asked. "He's a good kid with a spectacular voice."

"I'm not denying his voice, and I'm sure he's nice, but I just can't stand him," Changmin explained, turning the page of the book he had been reading. "He just drives me nuts every time I see him."

"Well, is there any reason?" Yunho asked as he and Yoochun returned from the kitchen with the food and drinks.

Taking his, Changmin shook his head. "No, not really. He's just a snarky little shit and all I wanna do is wring his scrawny neck."

"Welcome to our world, Changminnie," Yoochun stated, drawing snickers from the other members and a glare from the magnae.

"I'm nothing like him..."

"Keep telling yourself that," Jaejoong commented, ruffling the boy's hair, only to yelp and rub his arm after Changmin One-Touched him a bit harder than usual.

----------------------------------------------------

"No."

The pair sighed, exasperated. Yesung, Ryeowook, and Kyuhyun were relaxing in Kyuhyun's room after a long day of rehearsal, just talking and getting to know each other better.

"Seriously, Hyunnie, what is so bad about Changmin?" Yesung asked. "I mean, he's a good kid."

"Never said he wasn't," Kyuhyun shrugged, flipping through the magazine he was casually looking at.

"Then why can't you even manage to be in the same room with him for like, .5 seconds before you get all snarky little shit on him?"

The magnae looked up with a weak glare. "Not my fault."

"How do you figure?" Ryeowook asked.

"He just rubs me the wrong way. I can't stand how he seems to think he knows everything. He's such a damned smartass, and it makes me want to punch him in that smug face of his."

"And now you know how we feel," Yesung teased.

"I'm nothing like him..."

"Sure you aren't, Kyu," Ryeowook sang, then yelped as he received a pillow to the face.

----------------------------------------------------

The usually boisterous dressing room went silent as the members of DBSK entered the room, led by Yunho and end brought up by Changmin. Donghae gave Yunho a hug while Hyukjae decided that his best friend deserved a more hands-on greeting. He punched Junsu in the shoulder, receiving one in return, accompanied by their usual banter which was something that everyone was finally starting to get used to.

Everyone slowly shifted around the room, leaving the two youngest together.

"Hey." Changmin began, rolling his eyes at Jaejoong, who was motioning for him to start a conversation.

"Hi," Kyuhyun replied, looking anywhere other than Ryeowook, who was staring at him with pleading eyes.

"So how are you? Settling in okay?"

"Yeah. It went easier than expected."

After the two were trapped in the awkward silence that followed, Changmin sighed, drawing a raised brow from Kyuhyun. "Look. I know that we're not really overly fond of each other, right?"

"You could say that," the raven haired teen agreed.

"Well, our bandmates are friends, so maybe we should at least play nice for their sakes," Changmin suggested.

Kyuhyun nodded. "I was kinda thinking along those lines, too." Holding his hand out, he asked, "Truce?"

Changmin smirked, accepting the hand. "Truce."

They chuckled, dropping the other's hand as they heard the cheers from their friends.

----------------------------------------------------

The five members ran into the waiting room, worried eyes falling on their ten waiting friends.

"Is everyone okay?!" Yunho asked as Donghae practically attached himself to him.

"Shindong and Eunhyuk are okay, more or less," Kangin explained. "Hyuk needs stitches and the two have some glass embedded, but they can leave in a couple days."

"Leeteuk needs to have glass removed surgically from his back, so he'll be here a bit longer," Heechul added, for once quiet and muted.

"And Kyuhyun?" Changmin asked.

"We don't know yet. Only that it doesn't look good," Hankyung said. "He was thrown from the van and has a lot of serious injuries."

"The doctors aren't sure when he'll wake up," Yesung murmured, head down and hand clenching Ryeowook's.

----------------------------------------------------

"Changmin?"

Turning from his position on his bed, the magnae saw Yoochun standing in the doorway. It had been a few days since the accident, and everyone had been on edge, waiting for the youngest Super Junior member to wake up. Junsu had gone to the hospital to meet Eunhyuk while the others had gone with him, or so he assumed.

"I thought you left with the others."

"I was going to, but I thought that you might want company or something," Yoochun explained, walking over to the bed and sitting down.

"How is he?" Changmin asked quietly.

"Stable," Yoochun replied. "He still hasn't woken up yet, but things are looking a bit better." He paused, placing a hand on the magnae's shoulder. "Are you okay, Min? I mean, seriously."

He sighed. "I was always so mean to him, wasn't I?"

"I think you both could have been nicer to each other," the composer agreed. "That doesn't mean that you two can't change that, right?" He smiled slightly, squeezing Changmin's shoulder. "He'll be okay. Kyuhyun's a strong kid."

Smiling slightly, Changmin nodded his head. "Yeah, you're right."

"Of course I am. I'm your awesome hyung, after all," Yoochun stated airily in an attempt to cheer him up.

"And humble, to boot," Changmin stated, rolling his eyes.

"How about we go see him? I'm sure he'd appreciate it, even if he isn't awake yet."

Changmin nodded. "Yeah. That sounds like a plan."

----------------------------------------------------

They had all gotten the call. Dropping everything, the members of the two groups all rushed to the same place after the news was given.

Kyuhyun was awake.

The information that was given to them sobered everyone considerably, but the sheer fact that he was awake and coherent kept them cheerful. Kyuhyun would be okay, which was the truly important thing.

Due to the sheer number of people, everyone was allowed in, only as small groups. The very first consisted of Leeteuk, Shindong, and Hyukjae, accompanied by Yunho and Junsu. Next went another group of five, followed by the rest.

Changmin, however, wished to go alone.

Entering the darkened room, he smiled at the boy before sitting down in the uncomfortable chair beside the bed. "How are you, Kyu?"

He received a weak smile in reply.

That smile reminded him of the severity of Kyuhyun's injuries, both physical and psychological. Between the breaks and tears and internal injuries, the one the boy was probably the most terrified of would be the lack of voice. They had been told that upon waking, Kyuhyun had found himself completely mute, though the doctors clarified that it was simply due to shock and should return within a few days.

"I'm sorry," Changmin whispered, drawing Kyuhyun's attention. At the inquisitive gaze, Changmin continued. "I've treated you like crap since day one, and I don't even know why. Just that you're a snarky little brat." He had to chuckle at the glare sent in his direction. "I guess I just think that maybe we should have tried a bit harder to be friends."

The two sat in an oddly comfortable silence when Changmin noticed the trembling hand before him. Looking down, he saw that Kyuhyun was holding his hand out as best he could due to the weakness in his arm. Seeing the relaxed smile, Changmin reached out and gently took the other's hand in his.

----------------------------------------------------

“If you hate a person, you hate something in him that is part of yourself. What isn't part of ourselves doesn't disturb us.”

Changmin looked up from his book, only to see Kyuhyun reading off of a small post-it note. "Kyu, what're you babbling about?"

Said singer stuck his tongue out childishly before snuggling further into the sofa beside Changmin. It was a rare opportunity for the two groups to spend time together and not worry about flights and/or start times. While Hyukjae and Donghae had conned Junsu and the more active members into a game a soccer, Changmin and Kyuhyun had chosen instead to relax indoors and just enjoy the other's company.

"It's just something that Hankyung Hyung showed me not long after I joined," he explained. "He said that it would help me and you get along better."

That got Changmin's attention. Putting the book down, he turned his full and undivided attention to Kyuhyun. "Is Hannie Hyung saying that we hated each other because we're so similar?" At Kyuhyun's affirmative nod, Changmin chuckled. "He may have a point. I mean, I can be pretty snarky when I want to be."

"And I kinda act like a smartass sometimes," the raven haired singer relented, smacking Changmin for the emphatic nod in reference to the admission. "I also don't think it's right."

"Oh? You don't think we're too similar?"

Smirking, Kyuhyun shifted until he was in Changmin's lap, straddling the man. "Trust me, Min. It's not myself that I wanna do this to," he purred, leaning in to kiss his lover.

Changmin returned the smirk and crumpled up the note, pulling the young man closer.

They may be too similar in some respects, but they differed just enough to make it work.
